Rock Of Ages To Open At The Shaftesbury Theatre

It is confirmed: Rock of Ages is to arrive from Broadway at the Shaftesbury Theatre from the 31st of August.

Rock of Ages  is yet another jukebox musical based upon the glam rock period. Wonderful. The "arena-rock love story" was nominated for five Tony Awards in 2009, but won none, and now a motion picture is underway- starring...Tom Cruise! Great.

Dear Reader, in case you have not noticed I am being sarcastic. This is not what our beloved West End needs! Not another jukebox musical. I'll be fair, we have been told that this is in the same league as Mamma Mia or Jersey Boys. And I haven't seen it yet so I shall withhold judgement as to the merits of the show. 

However, what I will say, is that I would LOVE for there to be a revival of something...anything! Broadway gets How To Succeed and Anything Goes. We get another jukebox musical. Or, God forbid, let's have another original show. With original music. Dream.

But who knows, maybe Rock of Ages will be the best thing I have ever seen in my life. Ever. Guess we'll just have to wait and see...
